Meet the Artist Behind TarnavskayaStudio

TarnavskayaStudio began with a lifelong love of creating things by hand.

My name is Irina Tarnavskaya, and I am the designer and maker behind TarnavskayaStudio. I live and work in Ukraine, where every piece in the studio is created by hand — from the first idea and material selection to the finished jewelry or accessory.

My interest in needlework began in childhood. I experimented with appliqué, knitting, embroidery, and decorating clothing, often finding ways to make simple things feel more personal and distinctive. Over time, that interest developed into a deeper passion for jewelry making.

From Traditional Jewelry to Silk Butterflies

I first began creating necklaces, earrings, and brooches in small quantities. Later, I started experimenting with embroidered flowers and butterflies, and that became an important turning point for the studio.

Butterflies quickly became one of the most recognizable elements of my work. Their delicate shapes offered endless possibilities for color, texture, and movement. Over time, the collection expanded to include moths, cicadas, dragonflies, flowers, leaves, and other forms inspired by nature.

Today, silk organza is one of the signature materials of TarnavskayaStudio. Its lightness makes it possible to create dimensional wings and petals that look expressive while remaining comfortable to wear.

Jewelry Inspired by Nature

TarnavskayaStudio now includes much more than butterfly jewelry.

I create handmade earrings, necklaces, brooches, rings, ear cuffs, hair accessories, bridal pieces, and decorative designs using silk organza, natural gemstones, freshwater pearls, crystals, chains, and carefully selected decorative elements.

Some pieces are delicate and understated, while others are designed as expressive statement jewelry. What connects them is the same idea: transforming natural shapes, colors, and textures into distinctive accessories that feel personal and unusual.

Made by Hand in Small Quantities

Each TarnavskayaStudio piece is handmade rather than mass-produced.

Silk wings and flowers are shaped and assembled individually, while natural gemstones and freshwater pearls have their own variations in color, shape, and texture. Because of this, small differences between pieces are a natural part of the handmade process and give each design its individual character.

I enjoy experimenting with new forms, unusual color combinations, and different ways of transforming familiar natural motifs into jewelry and accessories.

Creating in Ukraine

TarnavskayaStudio is based in Ukraine, and the studio continues to create and ship handmade pieces to customers around the world.

Even when circumstances make everyday work more complicated, creating remains an important part of my life. Every finished piece represents many small decisions and stages — selecting materials, shaping individual details, assembling the design, photographing it, packing it, and preparing it to travel to its new owner.

The Future of TarnavskayaStudio

The studio continues to evolve through new materials, new forms, photo projects, and collaborations.

I am especially interested in creating pieces that exist somewhere between jewelry, accessory, and wearable art — designs that can transform an outfit, become part of a wedding look, or simply help the person wearing them express something individual.
